My dad found this at a site we have been detecting. Most of the things we have found are from the early 1900's but have also found a few older items as well. From looking around online, I think it may be a WW1 button but would like a confirmation before telling my dad for sure. Im not knowledgeable on ID or age on buttons so any help would be appreciated.
Some of the backside is gone. Ive cleaned it with a toothbrush and had it in olive oil. Its large in size, first picture is next to a penny and shows it freshly dug.

It looks like there are traces of black paint on it which would date it from 1910-1923. This is according to the book "American Military Button Makers and Dealers; Their Backmarks & Dates." by William F. McQuinn and Bruce S. Bazelon.

It does have traces of black paint! That's great, my dad will be excited to know a timeframs for the button. He is just getting into detecting. Thanks so much to both of you!
