I have thought about taking my metal detector, pinpointer, and digging tool on business trips to use in the area I'm visiting during the evenings. I'd really appreciate any insights/knowledge/experience anyone can share on how to transport my equipment on commercial flights and any other aspects you can think of that I should know. Thanks all!

Agreed! I'd love to hear insights on both domestic and international travel. I know to check local laws, but am most interested in the transporting of equipment. Thanks!

Wow - over 100 folks have checked this thread and nobody has any experience to share on this?? I was really hoping this would be a helpful line of discussion for us all! Has no one ever taken their equipment on an airline trip?! ???

I talked to a friend yesterday that took his to Thailand. Packed it in a hard luggage case. No problem.

No help here, since I stopped Jumping out of planes, I no longer take off in them.

I put mine in a pelican box or you can use a hard case suitcase. In da Bahamas no problems mon

I don't know about internationally. I have flown many times domestically with my metal detector. My Tesoro Sidewinder would break down and fit in my luggage. Granted I only took a couple sets of clothes and did laundry every couple of days. Make sure you take out the batteries in case your machine accidentally turns on.

During my one trip to a California beach area I had a handheld scoop. I put my socks and underware inside the scoop.

For landlocked areas I had a nylon garden digger. This reduced weight and was not considered a weapon.

thank you - this is very helpful!

While modern detectors may be lightweight enough for you to carry while flying, I don't think they'd have the depth to pick up targets from the air. Perhaps you have some kind of futuristic alien technology that we are not yet aware of. Best of luck, space man.

..But yeah I'd like to know as well :)

I regulary take my XP Deus with me when I go to France. the coil, control box, and headphones in my small backpack with me in the cabin. this year, I had also my Excalibur II in my suitcase.

Thank you for this insight! I was wondering if Security would get uptight about having it in carry-on, but sounds like it hasn't been an issue for you. These responses have been helpful and encouraging! Can't wait to get to Europe now! :laughing7:

Thank you Casper! Very helpful and I appreciate the links.

I just took my deus on a flight to Baltimore. I was only concerned about the coil on my carry-on as it was fully charged and blinking . Made it through without any problems.

I went to Playa del Carmen last year. Broke my machine down. Packed the electronics in my carry on with a little note stating it was a metal detector used for my hobby. I had no problems going through security here or customs in Mexico. Going to do it again in a month.

thank you Jamie! Helpful and encouraging!

I was in a Goodwill the other day and saw a Hard Case for golf club shipping. I thought that would work really well, you would just need to get some foam for padding. I think they wanted less than $20 for the case. The case was capable of being padlocked too.
