Infantry Button?

We were out detecting at a local park today, and I came across this button. I just tossed it into my bag, but when I got home, I got pretty excited!

The back has WMH Smith & Co New York

Yes its Infantry, and if you found it in Mississippi its probably from the Civil War. Nice find, I wish I could find one.

Yes, in Jones County, MS.
That is what is interesting because we did not have a lot of activity around our county.
We had one minor skirmish over at Rocky Creek, and the Newt Knight stuff, but no major battles.

Actually I believe its just Pre-CW.

WM. H. Smith operated up-to about 1858.

I'm not saying it wasn't used in the CW, because it may have been. It's a fairly scarce backmark.

Nice looking button. I tried looking in Tice's book, and couldn't find much on that back-mark.
There was one example that said Wm. H. SMITH NEW YORK, the m had an underscore and was lower-case, and the Eagle I design was a little different.
