Indian wars item.... Interesting design on copper strap section

Hello all..... Out today in Montana on private land near Indian wars fort . Great finds , numerous fired 45-70 and 13 live ctgs dated 1873 Frankford Arsenal. Also a great Thos. G Hood phila gilt eagle button. In same small area I found the copper or brass strip section ( clearly broken, other section not found.... Yet), but if you see the closeup of this strip ( measuring 3" long and 1" wide with 1/2" long slots), the swirled and round dot pattern design is what really stands out. I am confident that one of you can help me.... Always have great success with item ID on this site with all members' expertise. Thanks very much in advance
