I am moving this to this thread to see if I can get more info. I am told this is the Indian Wars version of this button. I tend to agree but I am no expert so can you confirm this? Also I am curious about the dates this particular button was made and the area of the country where it would have been worn at that time. It was found Friday in Gaston County, N.C. on a ridge in the middle of the woods. Found approx. 4-6" deep. Thanks in advance.

Here are before and after cleaning.

Hey neighbor! I'm not a button guy but I think this one is gona be a good one.

That would be nice but even if it was so common everyone found one I would be super happy to have found it. I am thrilled. I just need to get as much info so I can show it off and know what I have exactly. Thanks for the post!

Unless I am missing something the Horstmann/Philadephia backmark dates from 1893-1935. The eagle button was replaced by the Great Seal one in 1902 so your button would date between 1893 and 1902.
