I'm afraid it's not an artifact, but it is really an interesting rock, and I would have brought it home also. Somebody on here will be able to tell you what kind of rock it is.

Can't really tell from the picture, but this one looks like it might have been worked on. Looks like I can see evidence of flaking.

I totally agree with "BosnMate" that it is not an artifact and that you may have a couple of unfinished artifacts in your cache of flint. Before written history people were curios as we are today so it isn't unusual to find oddities in ancient camp grounds, burial sites etc. Some of those prehistoric people even thought that items like yours had some religious or spiritual significance. I think what you have found is very important and should be investigated more thoroughly. I think what you have found is a personal cache of intended tools and trinkets that belonged to some prehistoric being or maybe even an American Indian that history has written about. Some of the pieces you have found may be blanks that were intended to be tools or weapons.Nonetheless, You have a very unique find and deserves more attention. I would go back and document where you found the cache and take notes of the surroundings, get a good gps location, and investigate the history of the area. Keep me in the loop on what you find. History is a passion and people like you make it happen . Good luck and good hunting !! :icon_thumright: The Kid PS. On a quick note I have found similar objects that were calcium carbonate deposits around the roots or root systems of some plants. They make for some very unusual rock formations. I really think prehistoric people thought they were cool too!!

The odd rock is chert/flint -- it's all cryptocrystalline quartz, one variety simply has fewer inclusions within. Chert is a sedimentary rock which forms as nodules within limestone. Here in Florida, such nodules may be any shape with a great range in size. This is the chert/flint used for tools by stone-age people around the world.

actually it might still be possible to find out where he got them , he was in construction so I'm pretty sure he found these clearing land on a jobsite somewhere in east tx , but I was also thinking there is a good possibility he found them right here on my land it has a creek that is a runoff from little cypress , there are also two natural springs on our property I actually have an excellent spot to metal detect and my dad has mentioned something about there being a mound that might have been used for ceremonial or burial rituals because of the way the mound was built with in the three huge pine trees that are growing there, idk what do y'all think ? I also have land in winnsboro that would be a possible place too

That's a National Geographic sponsored reconstruction based on a skull of H. erectus. It is a little startling, and I think that's the point of fleshing out the bones -- to help us appreciate our ancestry.

Sounds to me like you have a lot of work to do. I think I would research the history of the area and if there are schools near by visit with archeologist, museums and others in the know about the history of the area. By your description of the area you have the perfect location for a camp site even multiple camp sites. That is exciting! Keep me in the loop with what you find out. Good Luck!!
