For sure it is Aztec. Aztec calendar one side. The indian seems to be Cuauhtemoc dressed in a battle headdress.

Will keep you posted.

It is actually what the aztex warriors wore in battle. Eagle warriors. However, Chuauhtemoc is the one that is normally depicted. I believe he was the son or cousin of Monctezuma.

Here's a pic. Not of a coin unfortunatelly.

Modified. Guerrero Aguila coin.

The discontiued one is not close to this as i can tell

You can distinctly make out an eagle on the headdress of the one posted. I found a coin close but again the headdress is different but the back was almost identicle. I would like to see the size of this compared to a quarter i wanna say its a medallion not a coin but im not sure. The material is said to be stone like which also makes it very strange. The 2 pictures dont seem to match to me, but thats just me. If you can photo both sides with a dime or quarter next to each if you could.

I sent the photos to Don Bailey, a dealer specializing in Mexican coinage and exonumia.

http://www.donbailey-mexico.com/

His reply:

"It seems to be crudely made. I don't remember seeing this combination [identical images of Aztec calendar and Chuauhtemoc] before. I went through Frank Grove's Medals of Mexico in the Events, Commercial, and Personages sections and could not find anything like these images."

I did find the following pictures under Aztec Tokens. Very little information other than that may have been for "Wedding Tokens"

ALLO: I will post a picture of it when I return home say 7 - days.

As for books on the Mexican coinage, I went to the local library yesterday and there wasn't a single coin illustrated from Alamos, nor "any" with the Aztec calendar stone on them ???

See the Alamos coin in the attachemnt. This was from a cache uncirculated..
