Hello all, I must start out by saying that this is a very good site, and I love browsing everyones finds.
I know that this is an Indian Artifact of some kind, but am hoping someone here may know what it was used for. I sure wish I had the other piece.
This was found in the West Texas Permian Basin area.
Thanks in advance,
Gunny

First off, Welcome to Treasure net. Looks like a broken gorget, but a better place to post this would be in the Native American Artifacts there are alot of people in that forum that could help you out that don't look here!

If it's metal, it's a replaced cicle bar blade from a mowing machine. (counter sunk rivet hole)

Gorgets were most likely worn as a chest ornament. Banner stones are believed to have been atlatl weights. The notches on your gorget are known as tally marks. It's unsure exactly what they signified.

Looks like part of the bill from a spoonbill catfish. Monty
