Scouted a couple of new areas this afternoon. This was the first signal at my last stop. Any help would be greatly appreciated as far as dating this buckle. I'm assuming late 1800s to early 1900s.
Needless to say, I'm super excited!
I would date it 1870 to 1900 based on the tongue, most of the Civil War period police buckles I've seen were two piece, similar to a two piece CS buckle. With that said, I've never seen a buckle like this before, very nice find!
Beautiful, historical find, congratulations. Yes, your buckle dates 1870's-1920's, when the baton belt was worn outside of the overcoat. The other half of that buckle (loop for the hook) is hopefully nearby, happy hunting! Sub
