plus two rare 25% "silver " 1915 cuban coins -- a "V" (cinco centavos) and "II" (dos centavos) coin one "marked" 5.0 G / 250M the other "marked" 3.5 G / 250M---1915 was the first year "cuba" as a country "made" coins -- actully the us made the coins for them in the philadelphia mint --the designer was BARBER -- of the "famous" barber coins here in america -- the two centavo coin was only made for two years 1915 and 1916 --both of the cuban coins are in great shape --the king george the I half penny wasn't as lucky---its very very worn -- you can make out that its a king george the I half penny by working at it --- they was issued 1717 to 1727 (his reign) but thats all--- only a few letters remain on the old colonial era "coppa" --- not too bad for a 10 for a buck bargin box sorting while waiting to get a coin "graded"-- Ivan

not selling -=- I find them at a coin store today -- I went in to have a coin --" check graded" -- while waiting I browsed thru their "culls" or junk box --- 10 for a buck stuff -- in it I found the "old coppa" and two 25% silver cuban coins from 1915 ---a 2 and 5 cent (centavos) the nickle was marked 5.0 G / 250M the two cent piece was made for only 2 years --1915 and 1916 --it was marked 3.5 G / 250M---no my freind not selling them--- I'm crowing about getting two silver coins and a rather badly worn "old coppa" out of the culls box (for 30 cents) the coin dealers throw their "worthless" coins in the cull box ( think I'm going to have check that box a bit more closely next time I visit )-- ;D :D ;D I know you love colonial "old coppa" kirk--- Ivan

You said it right my friend, 'The box that they throw their worthless coins in.'

A coin dealer isn't going to lose a nickel. You can bet on that.

But, if you're happy with them, I'm happy for you.

Hope you find they are worth more than a dollar.

So the coin dealer don't know what silver looks like and is throwing it into boxes and selling it for pittance, where is this place at, I want to pay them a visit. You can keep the coppa's im hoping he has a worn out St Gaudens he's gonna sell me for a dime... heck even the silver will do at that price. Does he have any old jewelry he's dumping so I can get into that too?

simple careless opps -- folks screw up most likey thought it was cuppro nickle like the modern ones are-- hell 2 - 25% silver coins for 10 cents each? a wore out 1717 / 1727 era king george the first half penny for 10 cents ? lets see a 5 gram and 3.5 gram coin -- equals 8.5 grams at 25% pure thats 2.125 grams of pure silver or about 1/14 an oz (28.6 grams per oz)-- at 11 bucks a oz - lets see -thats .78 cents in scrap silver value just for the two coins -- plus their "first" year issue" coins of a country-- "cuba" 1915 --thats over 2 1/2 times the .30 cents I paid forall 3 of them -- with the wore out old coppa for "free" as a bonus -- heck I take all the "worthless coins" like that all day--- bet kirk from pa would give a buck for the wore out old coppa by itself -- ;D Ivan

Congrats on your " Finds " Ivan. You made my day just telling the story on how you found them. You never did tell us what GRADE the coin you took in came out as though. HH

oh the coin I took in --- went to the bank for some rolls of coins to CRH on the odd chance ask if they had any halves -- my "regular" teller said no but the teller next to her said --I got $10 roll of them a bit ago --- --I snapped up the roll --- (my bank like many these days doesn't stock halves so any halfs have to be turn local ins -- inside was (3) 1776 - 1976 halves in decent shape and a stunning 1984 "s" mint frosted proof (they only put them in proof sets) -- it gleamed--- outside of a sealed "proof" set I had never seen such a fine looking coin --and never in a roll --no dints, not scrathes, no dings -- a shiny mirror body with a frosted head--- having to go by the coin shops area to pick up my neice from school to go to her "gymnastics" class -- I dropped in to have them take a look -- (I was thinking MS 63 or if lucky still in "proof 65") -- sadly the grader said AU 50-- and to put it in a flip-- anyways -- the coin list in my 2005 red book as $5.00 in proof 65-- ah I live for the "little victories as well as the big ones " -- finding some odd or rare coin gives me a kick--- Ivan

Those are some neat old coins for a buck Ivan--Congrats on a good buy.

Hey Bavaria Mike, When I was stationed in Augsburg from 1974 to 1977 the local coin dealer sold me world coins at 10 for a mark. At that time the exchange rate was 2.64 marks to the dollar. I loaded up on barber coins and indian cents. He was a good buyer for all the swastika coins I dug too. I didn't buy many but he had rolls of silver half marks and marks in BU condition that he was selling for junk bullion prices. These were the imperial coins from before world war one. Banks in 1974 were selling US $20 gold pieces for $40 each but you took what they gave you at that price. They charged double if you wanted to look through what they had and if you did look through you had to buy at least one coin. A friend did that and said that all of them were common dates. 1975 US cacelled the no gold laws and the world price shot up to $300 per ounce. siegfried schlagrule

I was at a coin shop in Carlsbad, Ca a few years ago for some business, and while the dealer was busy waiting on another customer, I took a look thru the foreign ten cents each box. I found a 1954 silver German 5 mark coin. He did not want to, but he had to let me have it for ten cents since that is the way it was marked. It pays to rummage thru those "junk" boxes.
