The modern day Swedes out did themselves restoring the Vasa...
I guess it was to make up for the original design flaws that caused her to sink on her first tack!
This is probably one of the single most comprehensive successful marine archeological projecst that ever has been
undertaken. Luckily for them (the Swedes) besides having cold water and a massive restoration budget - they had the Mary Rose
experience to learn from.
In 1991 I was lucky enough to meet with Robert Magee, in Georgetown. He worked for Dr. Armand Hammer and was in charge
of special projects for him. The Mary Rose was one Dr. Hammer had his fingers in. It was Robert Magee who got me to go
to Stockholm and meet with the Vasa folks...
But that is another story... Unfortunately on the Jupiter Wreck the biggest piece of wood I beleive found thus far was a burnt dead eye!
