Was checking out a local trail that runs along a river which goes right through town. Both sides have been made into recreational park/trail systems. Saw a gravel/sand bar and had to check it out. I hunt for artifacts usually, but keep my eye out for anything (I did actually find a point- rough and scrappy, but a point nonetheless). Today I found a little quartz crystal- my first. I know there's quartz crystals all over this area, but I've never been able to find anything like this- only massive pieces w/ maybe some crystal nubs here and there. I also think I found a little piece of amazonite, but I have to test it. There's a lot of greenstone around here, but this wasn't like anything else floating around this area. Much brighter. I apologize for the crappy pics. It was dark when I got home. Thanks for looking! Yakker
p.s. anyone have any good suggestions on how to photograph clear stones? I've having a heck of a time.

Cool finds man! Good lighting for clear crystals is a must. Are you using a digital camera or phone? -Luke

Thanks BB-- and I'm currently using my phone. And it's not anything fancy. My problem seems to be that the camera wants to focus on something else- like the background or what the stone is sitting on. Here are a couple more attempts:

It's pretty clear (pun not really intended) that I need a decent phone and/or digital camera. I can't even find a 'macro' setting on the phone I have right now. That say something right there...8-) It says... I'm cheap. ;) Yakker

For better pics try putting your stone on a solid color background. I prefer dark so it doesn't reflect light. One stone at a time. No hands. Get in as close as possible on the stone with as little of the background as possible. Natural sunlight.
