The Melhville pictured below is the best point I've ever found in a plowed field. It's also the best in-situ picture I've ever taken, mostly because of the quality of the point and partly because of the perfect photo profile it presented. The tip, ears and base are all 100% intact which is amazing considering it's from a cultivated field. The point is exactly 3-1/8" and out of Burlington. Also pictured is a great corner notched point I haven't positively typed yet, a nice square stemmed hafted scraper, a decent stemmed point, a small red dart point, a hornstone Snyders and a corner notch minus one corner.

Overall a great day for me. Found 85 total pieces, unfortunately only 8 were whole or at least field grade points. This represents 10 hours of hunting yesterday, or the equivelant of 90 minutes of what Larson finds. I am very pleased with the finds in total, but the Mehlville is the best point I've found in at least 5 years.

The pictures may be too large, and if so I apologize. Any resizing help is appreciated.

Pretty amazing that it stayed together so well. Super fine! Congrats.

Great finds...Even a better sense of humor!! Sounds like the type of "ribbing" my brother and I give each
other every time we go out.

I like the full size pics, keep them up!!

wow. those are nice, anyone who doesn't have broadband can hit the back button.. :)

badandy - Thanks. I actually hunted 5 sites. One of them was mapped by Perino some years ago and is soley a Hopewell site. Nothing before, nothing after. The site the Mehlville came from I found 11 square stemmed bases as well. I don't know exactly what they are. Apple Creek maybe. They have a Hardin outline but I don't think they're old enough. Also the corner notch with the missing corner came from that site. Overall I've only hunted this particular area twice so I'm still learning a lot about what it has to offer. Oddly the site Perino declared to be Hopewell I found a pretty obvious early Archaic side notch at on Sunday as well.

On an unrelated note, if you're in Collinsville IL I'm not 10 minutes away from you.
