Good friend of mine brought this by the house and asked if I could post this on the forum and see what info I could get for him. He said it's by far his best find. He lost his employment and he's maybe thinking of selling it. He found this 6 years ago west of Sedalia, Mo. He was digging in a meter box for a sprinkler system and there it was about two foot down. Please, if I could get some direction and info from you all on what you think of it such as Type? Age? Lithic? Value? and a trustworthy authenticater and approximate cost of getting it authenticated I would be very appreciative of you all. Thanks in advance, I wish I could say I found it!! Its appr. 2 inches X 1-1/4 inch, The thumb cup and finger cup on backside fit perfectly and it looks to me to be very well used. The thumb cup has an indention that looks like it is from a thumb nail if that is possible. Thanks again, and if you need any more info or pictures dont hesitate to ask. JYD...

JYD, tell your freind not to bother getting it authenticated because that would cost him more than the piece is worth. If it is a tool, and I'm still not 100% convinced it is, it would only be worth a few dollars at best. It looks like it may have had some very minimal chipping along both curved edges, but those also could have occured naturally by contact with other stones.

Even if it was a very nice Shaft Scraper, like one of these in this picture, they just aren't as valuable as you think they may be. I'd say even my very best one wouldn't fetch much more the $25 to $50.

Thank you DorkFish for the info. I really did not know anything about arrow scrapers and I thought it was somewhat more of a better find, and obviously he was under more of a higher impression of worth, so much that I'm not looking foward in letting him know what Info I have found out. Learn something everyday. I do appreciate the reply and the picture sent with some beautiful examples. take care and good luck. JYD...
