Wow when I found this I first thought it was a punch out from a modern piece of sheet metal. But nothing else I've found in this area is newer than 100 years give or take and there is no modern trash around. It is slightly larger (by a millimeter if that) than a dime and thinner.

If you look at the first photo you can see some detail on the right and left of a bust, but cannot make out much more. on the back I see lines which I believe are enviromental damage but could they be a shield?

Thanks for the help and good luck. If anyone needs Hi Res photos I can send them to you.

Just to add, when I hold the coin like the top picture and flip it, the lines in the second photo are straight up and down.

Maybe a very worn half dime
Yup that's it.
See the hair on the right I have outlined? compare it to the photo on the bottom :icon_thumleft:

It looks like it could be a Capped Bust dime (1809-1837).

Yep I can see that. the sharp cut to the hair and the bit of bust matches.

Same size as the red book as well.

Thanks for the ID. Don't think I'll ever get a date off of this one though :-[
