Figured you have done this already just wondering how much material and how well this worked. Maybe there are other ideas out there. At least it worked for around a ton of rock as a good sample of values per ton.I done that in mine .
Worked great , but when they wear out there are more expensive to replace , I ran a bought 2,000 lbs in two days and . Chains for me work best and I get hard steel for free constantly, and chains a lot from scrap bin also . But they will work and last a while if your not crushing a lot .
Assembler, I saw a picture of one, it maybe be under GGs thread somewhere, that had little wing-plates welded to the shaft. To which quick links were welded with the nut on the opposite side of the rotations(so that its not the striking face). Off that he could quickly change out chains as needed and on the ends of the chain he welded flat bar for the striking face. Im sure if you used harded steel for that it'd undoubtedly would last longer.
Edit - Kinda like this, and this is probably what i saw to be honest. But if he welded it on the outside of the chain.. who knows, just thinking
Great tips jair and thanks for posting.Hardened steel , old cutting edges from a motor grader or envy ground engagement equipment .
Cut into pices . To fit the chains .
I understand that some folk like to make their own equipment but I have found that the most commercially viable way to prospect is to buy a cheap portable Chinese made hammer mill with a Diesel engine. Can process around a half ton per hour, you can get a fairly fine grind and they only cost around 1000 usd. One set of hammers at a cost of around 30 usd can process about 4 tons depending on the rock you are crushing.
Or alternatively I have seen home made rock crushers using cuts of railway iron instead of chain using the broader part as your hammer. Lasts much longer than chain. Can use I iron also.
