I cannot figure out" why the paint" it seems to have been applied recently ??? ???just curious

My guess is some kid found a rock that looked like an axe head and painted it. The paint looks too new. Also, the axe heads I've seen have a groove around the middle where it was attached to the handle. I could be wrong though.

i don't know one part has the paint good and the other side is faded away. here's another picture and this is the back

Actually I think you have found someones old paper weight, or doorstop. It doesn't look like an artifact to me. It appears to be a piece of granite, and the granite artifacts iv'e seen are not as pourous on the surface, as the indians would peck and grind and polish a good piece of stone. How ever it could have been used as it was picked up as a club or maul[ before the paint of course]. Was it found in association with other artifacts? HH

First time I've ever posted on this board, probably because it's the first time I know any relevant info. If it was found in Miami, it is definitely not any sort of Indian artifact. Stone artifacts are extraordinarily rare in southeast florida, as only limestone and sandstone naturally occur there, neither of which are good for anything. The tequesta indians used shell, bone, and wood for all tools.
