They are cord-holders from President (brand) suspenders, invented and patented in 1901. Here's a scan of the original US Patent diagram, dated 1901, and an advertisement for President suspenders from the early-1900s.

Let me give public credit to our fellow What-Is-It forum ID-helper BigCypressHunter for first posting that advertisement, years ago in this forum.

Awesome!
Thanks for the fast and accurate reply!
Just wondering... How did you find it so fast?
Had you seen these before?
Or just great Google skills?

Looks like I found the whole set too.
Three singles and one triple.
I also found one of the lower loop clamps. These were found at Rock cellar hole near 49ner. Camp. Not t a whole lot around these rock house sites, I think the occupiers didn't really own much. Found an ax head that was worn out and used up to the point of handle hole breaking through.
They got there money's worth out of that ax head for sure!
Thanks again for the help!

Because you asked: I didn't need to use Google... I remembered those President (brand) suspenders parts' distinctive look from seeing them get identified in this forum in the past. Trying to be a good ID-helper in this forum and others, I saved the US Patent diagram and advertisement into a special folder for relic-identifications on my computer. I've saved many-many such relic-ID images, because instead of just telling a digger what his/her "mystery find" is, it helps to also show what his/her find looked like when it was part of the complete object.

Wow. Thanks for your help on this forum.
I knew someone would help ID these.
Almost half the fun, finding out what we have dug up.

Another great and accurate ID. I'm thankful that some of these folks share their vast knowledge with others.
