I'm so excited I could spit. ~THPPT~ There, I did.

Last night I was studying some local history, and I think I may have stumbled on something better than I have ever even dreamed about.

In my neck of the woods, nothing is very old--after 30 years of coin hunting, my oldest American coin is 1869--but I just learned of a popular 1850s hangout/ gathering spot. Further research this morning has shown me that this spot is currently on public land, and has never been developed at all. The place I found this info was obscure and I figure there is a good chance no one else will have hunted there or even know about it!

I'm going nuts and making 'the face'.

Thanks Funkman!

Its not super close to me, so I'm going to have to plan it out carefully. Plus I think I will wait until the 4th of July weekend is over. I can go at any time, so I might as well wait until I think no one will be around there. :-\ :D

sounds like a plan...let us know how you make out. I was just outside by my work.....THPPT..... and detected a small scetion of a field that the high school practices football on and came back with a lock, a penny, the top of a fence post, and a small tin fish...looks like someone made it in shop class.

MLW, don't go yet.....let the anticipation build and build.....til you can't stand it anymore. And then like most of my much-anticipated hunts, you will find zilch, nada, nothing. :( But at least you still had that thrill of suspense. ;D

Uh...sorry....I meant to say "Good luck, Matt!". ;) Really...I hope you find something great.

sounds exciting... can't wait to hear how you do there!

Thanks you guys!

LOL @ funkman spitting too

heheheh Lisa.... at least I'm a vet enough to know that it might take several trips before I find anything at all. There will undoubtably be a lot of ground to cover, and heaven only knows what kind of underbrush I'll be looking at. I do have some pretty darn good site indicators though as to exactly what and where I will be looking, so who knows...

If its brushy, remember, 3 leaves together sometimes shiney. And make sure your coil chases all the nasties away before you put your hands near the ground.

Re: I'm so excited I could spit. ~THPPT~ There, I did.

heheheh yeah, no kidding.

In all these years of crawling around in bushes and undergrowth, somehow I have never gotten poison ivy or oak. Maybe I'm immune? Or just really lucky... I *have* had some nasty bouts with nettles, though.

As far as creatures go, when I was growing up on the east side of the Cascade Mountains I had to contend with rattlers, black widows, and the occasional scorpion. Now I'm on the west side of the Cascades, and as far as I know there aren't any of those nasties over here. I could still get bit by a shrew, I suppose. ::) :D

Nice bit o' research!

I hope it pans out. I think most of the Portland MD'ers are park and school peps, so I bet your site will be fun.

The only thing you have to worry about around here is black widows and poison oak. The widows are rare and usually urban. The rain kills all nasties.

If you need any back up, just say the word!

heheh xto...I'll think about it. I'm a bit of a recluse at times.

Uh, there are black widows on this side of the mountains?! So far I haven't seen any, although I have found several hobo spiders in my house. Those little buggers are probably a worse bite than a black widow bite.

Re: I'm so excited I could spit. ~THPPT~ There, I did.

Celtic: Why not hunt it right now? ;D :D

You think I could wait that long!?!? :P

Re: I'm so excited I could spit. ~THPPT~ There, I did.

I'd get up there soon, so the first sight you see when you arrive isn't the back-end of someone swinging a loop!!
;D

Re: I'm so excited I could spit. ~THPPT~ There, I did.

I'm headed there right now, so I'll let you know how I did--probably in today's finds, unless I don't find anything. ::)

I figure since Mona was out there already all the 2-cent pieces will be gone. >:(

Oh wait--this site predates 2-cent pieces.... Guess you didn't find anything then, huh? ::) :D ;) :-*

Re: I'm so excited I could spit. ~THPPT~ There, I did.

LOL! Thanks Joe.

We did get out there for a day. I wrote about it with pics in the Today's Finds forum.
