I have also added a poll.

I would like to see whether Im a minority. Im specifically interested in what excal "pro's" (I have 1000s of Excalibur hours under my belt) think about both detectors.

I dont like the equinox as its beach 2 mode isnt deep enough and signals lack as much informational value. Its slightly more sensitive than excl yet this is the only benefit it has imo.

I dont like the equinox in park2/field2 fresh water lakes as its a magnet for too much tiny trash. I have only found one 9gr gold chain and +-1gr of gold an hour with it in "my" lakes where excl at max sensitivity averages about double the weight an hour (divided among many outings).

So what do other advanced excal users think?

Interesting to see your poll results in a few days. Of course if you haven't used both machines, don't vote. I have never tried an Excal but from what I've heard it is one of the best underwater machines available.

I agree. I have a CTX and don’t think it goes as deep. Excal is the deepest machine out there.

I agree the Excal blows the Equinox out of the water. I have both. I have used the Excal for years, I have used the CTX and I have used the Equinox now for more than a year. I do wet, dry sand and water. I spend most of my time in the water and the Excal finds more targets and I have more success with the Excal than the Equinox. I hunt in beach mode two. I will take the Excal over any other machine out there. I will keep my equinox but my main machine is and always will be the Excal. I love it.

18 gr gold/hr = .578 oz X $1496 = $864. Say most is 14K. $864 X .583 = $503/hr. Nice.

Were I hunting in salt water greater than knee deep, I'd grab my Excal as it's more waterproof than the EQX in my experience and designed specifically for that environment. For shallow surf, dry and wet sand, the EQX 800 is preferred for two main reasons: Faster processor and greater sensitivity to small targets...especially gold like small chains. My evaluation is based on actual past performance on Florida's east coast beaches with both machines but like I always say, this is just the view from my foxhole.

I agree with ColoneDan. I like both machines and will keep both. Each has their advantages. I like the Excal for deeper water and depth. The Nox in dry sand, and inland hunting is much better IMO. Wet sand is kind of a toss up with me. I still think the Excal gets a bit more depth, but, the Nox is so nice and light, with good visual target I.D., and better tone I.D. with the wireless headphones, that I usually use it instead of the Excal. Small gold definitely goes to the Nox.

I also agree with the above. Excal in the water, Equinox on the wet sand and beach as well as the field/park.

Your poll doesnt fit the real world. I have both and I use both. Each is better in some areas than others. If I had to pick only 1 to use for the rest of days I would pick the EQX simply because its more versatile. If I decided that underwater at salt beaches was the only hunting I would ever do then I would pick the Excal.

Jason, interesting point, but that point can be made with any machine. Ground conditions change greatly.

Yeah, and the stuff has to be there to begin with. Every last piece of gold I ever found...I was really surprised to see gold come out of the ground. Every one.

Good post stick with what works best for you
