I'm plumb perplexed....

Found this today while detecting my alma mater. School was erected in 1888. Could it be a sash weight or a plumb bob. Looks like lead and is weighty.

One pound lead weights are not uncommon for heavy surf fishing and even larger ones are made. What's this one weigh??

My guess without weighing it, feels more like 2 lbs. I would think this would snap most lines, but then again I eat Mrs. Pauls fishsticks.....lol

If a person casted this on a line as a sinker, he'd probably knocked the fish out before the line sank in the surf.

After doing some research, the shape is inconsistent with pics I've seen. Did they come in different shapes?

It looks to be a downrigger or fishing weight for fishing in deep oceans, lakes, or rivers.

Greetings, I googled "pea weights" and came up blank. However I have several just like it. Mine came from my neighbors garage sale. He was a deep sea fisherman. It takes that much weight and lots more to keep your line deep enough to troll. I use mine as an anchor for my pontoon boat.

Although they(peas) did come in different shapes, I could be wrong. Won't be the first time...I'm pretty sure it won't be the last, haha. Try searching "cotton scale" or just copy and paste this link.
