For anyone close to Buffalo, Illinois this might be worth a look. In July 1931 workers dug up two jugs of gold coins on a property close to the city. The property owner at the time of course said it was his since on his property. Turns out it was buried there by a Tim Leeds 50 years earlier. Eventually the heirs were rewarded the cache. I am only attaching two articles but there are several you can find that have bits of info. Info including the location of the property was close to town and that Mr. Leeds was known to not trust banks. I think its possible there was more on the property. I also attached a plat map that has the potential property circled with the name of the property owner at the time of the find. I didn't dig deep to find older plats with Leeds listed in same spot. Maybe someone else will want to take it to the next level. I am not 100% sure this is the property just because its close to the town yes but not as close as some of the articles suggest. I am thinking its possible the site the jugs were dug up was the northwest corner of the property closest to town. In second article you find the current owners name of Booth.

Buffalo, Illinois is in Sangamon county and the township is Mechanicsburg
