Illinois Agate Basin

I added this Agate Basin to the collection. I ordered it on ebay almost a month ago, and it just showed up yesterday. I believe it is made from Burlington Chert.

I rarely, if ever, shop for arrowheads on ebay. It's laughable at how many friggin' fakes there are. The field grade ones are safe though.

More importantly I only buy from known good sellers, and have got some great piece at a fair price!

If it's G10, I never trust it. I don't mind the field grade stuff, though I do wish for a nice piece without spending a whole lot.

eBay isn't too bad if you are willing to quickly return stuff that doesn't cut the mustard. Their buyer protection and importance of having 100% feedback make outright theft a rarity now. (I remember in the early days of eBay's predecessor site auction web and you never knew if something would show up.)

I am seeing a lot of rocks that aren’t artifacts at all and it seems they are mostly ignored.
And, even though they seem to get plenty of bids many of the fakes stick out like a sore thumb..

is that damage or a notch on the base of that agate basin rustyrelics?

Damage. It has been nicked a few times by something.

This one has the stronger shoulders present in Agate Basin types. Sedalia is close, but not a 100% match.

An Agate Basin would be thin with heavy grinding down both sides of the basal edges. I'm not seeing that in your piece. I believe Sedalia is a closer match. Are the notches breaks/chips?

I’d agree it’s not agate basin. They are usually better made as with the characteristics grim has described.
