Heres some of the Quartz ive found when I first started lookin for gold (last year). Out here in Riverside county Ca. Most of it I found was just milky white Quartz Goldless but I found a lot, Love the placer claim sign there spelling is funny. Quartz blows in gold country are a good place to begin looking for gold and crystals ;) The blows themselves are usually barren but they indicate hydrothermal activity so other mineral seams are likely in the area. If there has been placer activity in the area but no mines consider looking for stuff as you would if you were hunting in a river~ however make sure your not jumping any claims.
The prospecting forum is a good area to talk around.
