Texas may be the target of Ike, but let me tell you he is sending some HUGE surf to the northern gulf. Today at Pensacola Beach (325 miles north of the eye) we had 18-20ft. surf. Santa Rosa Island was also breached down towards Fort Pickens nearly the same spot that gets breached only on direct hits or near misses. Storm surge up here is expected to reach 5 feet tonight.
I strongly suspect there is much more energy in the storm than they are currently detecting based on the extent of energy being unleashed on our shores here. If you are in Texas, my thoughts and prayers go to you and I hope you evacuate if you are anywhere near the coast or Houston Ship Channel.

P.S. Here's a link to some of our beach cams to give you a fair idea what's going on to the north-northeast of the storm. Keep in mind there's usually about 150 yards of sand between the bottom of the cams and the waterline .
