Detector(s) used
Whites, Minelab, Tesoro, and custom machines
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
When I started detecting machines were simple (I didn't think so then), but there was still a learning curve. I had detected a little in the late '60's but then I got an invite to a big 2yr party in Southeast Asia. When I got back to SC the second thing I bought was a Whites Coinmaster 4 !! It had discrimination which I thought was great. Started in an old deserted school yard and found some coins every day. One day I pulled up and this old codger was there. (He had to be at least 50 yrs old ) Before he left he came over and shook hands. I asked if he had found anything. He reached in is bag and pulled out a hand full, more than I had found there in a week!! He invited me to his house. He had been a mine sweeper in Korea, and showed me some of the things he had learned in field training. He had a garden with several different coins, iron, bottle caps and other stuff. He told me several things to try, and he said turn that discriminate knob down or OFF! We hunted together for a long time. I have a garden in my yard that is 40yrs old. It makes a new machine a lot easier to learn. If I hadn't had that garden I would never have mastered the DFX or the Explorer !!!
