If you were buying an Ace 250 would you also buy a pinponter?

I detected for many years without a pinpointer, I finally broke down and bought one and asked myself how I ever got along without one of these things!

They will cut your recovery time in half, meaning more time to cover ground.

I recommend a quality pinpointer for all hobbists.

Happy Huntings :)

I just started detecting a few months ago (Whites Prizm). After a month I decided to get a pointer. What a difference! Unfortunately it broke after a few weeks. Detecting was not nearly as efficient or fun. When my replacement arrived a week or two later IO was never happier. Get one!

Yes. A pinpointer, while not a vital piece of equipment, is a really handy and great tool to have.

Depends upon the location and amount of light, I think. I don't use one. Normally I can pull just about anything out in my plug unless it is over about 6". I hunt at night a lot and it is necessary to get it right the first time. Sports fields and public parks are easy. I don't hunt the woods at night. In the daylight, in wooded areas, I cut my area as best as possible, roots ya know, and set my machine down next to me, scan a handfull of loose soil and set it down in a separate pile next to the hole. Wooded area searches are the only places I think I would use one if I would at all. Most of the time I take a small 12" x 12" plastic mat with me so any of my plug "droppings" will not get into the grass and so neither will my target.

Basically it is up to you whether or not you have a difficult time as a beginner. With practice you may not need one. Maybe you will just WANT it. Go for it if it makes ya happy. GL

It's a lifesaver if you have a coin stuck on the side of the hole. The coins around here tend to turn the same color as the ground and very difficuldt to see. If the coin is in the plug, no problem. I think the weak point with any probe type pinpointer is the area where the probe itself goes into the control box. I broke two and the last one I put a heavy bead of JB Weld where the two join. Has held for nearly two years now and I have even used it to pry in loose soil. Monty
