Don't forget you can have a late crop of something like turnups. Those things can stand a lot of cold. Reuse that space.

Re: If you only had a 10' x 10' garden, what would you grow?

Nancys garden is 8x8. 2climbing pes vines,2 bean vines ,4 tomatoes ,2 peppers, carrots that never grow, onions, . same every year, and I have to take care of it. Bob

no for "grow" light folks they watch for abnormally high electric bills -- :D

Re: If you only had a 10' x 10' garden, what would you grow?

I would divide it in half, enough for my apple orchard and orange grove.

Under the trees I will plant my onions, turnips, potatoes, beets. On the top soil left I would have my lettuce and tomato plants. My boarder will be a garden of flowers. Now that is good use for a small plot.

Re: If you only had a 10' x 10' garden, what would you grow?

3 or 4 beefsteak tomato plants in good cages, 1 row of stringless bush beans, 1 row of 1/2 purple onions and 1/2 Wala Wala sweet, white onions, a row of green bell peppers (that would be about 4 plants and TONS of peppers but they can be frozen) one last row consisting of 1 jalapeno plant, 1 cilantro, 1 purple basil, and 2 eggplnt. You can place your garlic along the edges. I see SALSA in your future! After you do this and experience the profound difference in freshness and flavor, next year your garden will be twice as big and you can grow some sweetcorn too!

Better separate those peppers, or they'll cross pollinate.

How visible is it from the air?

:laughing7: :laughing7: It doesn't have to be visible from the air, they have infra red for that! :laughing7: :laughing7:

I thought that was for the grow lights indoors....

:laughing7:
Wow, hope they don't target my woodstove!

Re: If you only had a 10' x 10' garden, what would you grow?

mind you i don't know how much space what i had in mind would take but as far as what would be in the garden space.

lattices for climbing vines (got red runner seeds-hope they are still good), bell peppers (dunno which color), tomatoes (was thinking on deck w/ upside down planter things for those), sun flowers (got seeds for that), letuce other than iceberg, dunno what else

Asking someone from Denver what to grow is kinda humorous. With the medical marijuana boom going on, it's like the Old West out here. Never seen so many dispensaries, as well as stores supplying growing equipment. If I had money, I'd be buying stock in Home Depot.
I'd grow whatever costs you the most to purchase in a grocery store, and is difficult to grow out doors.

Strawberrys and sell them!No one mentioned radishes or corn?

Re: If you only had a 10' x 10' garden, what would you grow?

First plan what you want to eat. Corn on the cob, Tomato Soup, Stewed Tomatoes (peppers & onions, Spices), Pizza, Sun Dried Tomatoes, Basil, Squash/Eggplant/Onions, Fried Okra.

Stick with good growing plants for your area, tomatoes, peppers, corn, peas, beans, squash, zucchini, eggplant, okra, onions. Avoid large flowering or space hog plants. lettuce is too tempermental, besides its $1 a head. Cabbage, turnips, greens use too much space for small micro-plot. Kale, Swiss chard, Korabi hyped by Mother Earth News, check their small garden recommendations.

From Garden Show, either, free standing (2 outside walls) corner trellis, or 4-sided (Reach into center) mini plot in middle of yard. Good for climbing or staked plants, beans, tomatoes etc.
use 2x2 sharpened point into ground .. plastic coated welded wire fencing inserted into drilled holes .. use top and bottom separator 2x2 to make rigid frame. Offset adjacent panel holes by 2 inches. (On corner unit use brace bar at top, mid, and lower area -- can be used for hanging planters.) push at least 1 foot into ground for stability.

Martha Stuart Special I think, Plant Pizza Garden - Herbs/Spices, Peppers, Onions, Tomatoes, to make pizza cheaper at home. Spices do ok in multiple, growing boxes on a wall in sunny area. Sick a couple flower plants at ends and looks better.

Try old Indian garden method, corn for support, climbing beans, and squash plant at base.
Dig along fence line and plant Fig Bushes and Fruit trees (peach, plum, pear, whatever grows good, avoid apple), Pecan, Hickory nuts take 5 years minimum. Strawberries, blueberries in-between.

Re: If you only had a 10' x 10' garden, what would you grow?

heres my garden its about 15x10. i have 6 tomato's, 6 jalapenos, 1 yellow bell, 1 red bell, 3 squash, 2 zucchini, 2 banana peppers, 4 Serrano chili's, about 10 green onions. its enough for my wife and i to eat on all summer and fall. its really easy to maintain. watering 2 times a day and pulling weeds... i also have a much smaller herb garden with 10 cilantro, 5 parsley's, wild garlic, and basil. i dont know about anywhere else but in this part of Florida produce prices have went through the roof. tomato's are like $3.00 a pound... i hope this helps, if you have any questions feel free to pm me. good luck & HH. jon
