Hi all,
My nephew is coming for a visit this evening from Detroit. He comes from a broken home and we often try to do special things for him. He's 15 now and has watched me detect a couple times and is super interested. So I decided to have a surprise and bought him an Ace 250 today, plus larger coil, sand scoop, (he's getting my old imitation lesche), and headphones. I have bought from windy city before, but this was my first time in the store, and it is cool and Ron is a cool guy.

?Any tips on the Ace, as I have never used one?

I am going to try to take him out both tomorrow and Monday. I have to think hard where to take him because I have been focusing in on frustrating wooded spots to find oldies and I think I need to find a place with low-hanging fruit (or clad...)

I'd take him to a place loaded with clad to get him started... that will be a huge thrill just to be poppin coins out of the ground. then if he want to learn more work on older places... but start him at a school or playgrounds it'll be fun for him!

Chukers

i agree with chuckers give him plenty to dig he will be happy then later he will want the older coins good luck dennis

Get him started slow by the school. There isn't so many pull tabs like a park. Schools tend to have more coins around the play areas

Gotta agree with all the above Jon. Make sure you let him know the basics, school totlots are awesome Saturday morning stops.

Get him to advanced pinpointing, quicker recovery means more recoveries. Next best advice is especially on those mid tones by showing him that the gold and junk come in the same cats so he doesn't get the let down from expectations placed too high.

Once he's had his fill of clad and bling then you'll know quick enough if he's in it for the good stuff!
