Your guess is as good as mine Mack, I was told that people brought them over for jewelry etc, and since we've found civ buttons and 1800's coins on the site I might guess that somebody had one and just dropped it. I cannot believe that it got whacked by a mower blade. That's more of a head scratch-er for me. I assume it was dropped long ago and thinking they didn't have mowers in the 1800's.....It was about 6 inches down and in Florida the ground is basically sand so it sunk fast I'm sure. That one acre site has produced so much stuff and we've dug it at least 20 times. Now it's down to the AT Pro opened wide up and digging anything solid. What I can remember... 2 thimbles, sterling ring, 1885 V nic, 1880 Shield nic, 5 other silvers, gold ring, brass wedding band, 1883 IH, over 10 wheats, over 10 garment attachments, more than 50 shot shells, around 50 clads, horse tac, and this Chinese coin. I know I'm forgetting more but you get the picture. thanks again for the link, that was really cool and took care of business
