I dont find many coins on my property but I find a lot of rocks that give off stong signals. Quartz I can identify and have found some but this one I have no idea what kind of rock it is. It has a few light shiny areas and many black pihead size areas. Any rock experts here? Thanks.

From what I can see. the pink looks to be a Feldspar and the tiny flecks are mica. If there are really dark spots, those might be tourmalines. What area was this collected in, if I may ask? Here in Colorado, Micaceous Feldspars are found in Pegmatite dikes, pretty common around here. Good luck and Happy Hunting.

They come from my yard in S.E. Wi. I am just curious why so many rocks set off my detector, I've gone elsewhere nearby and have'nt had any rocks give off a signal. Would any of the components you mentioned set off a detector? I know that about 100 yrs. ago there was an iron mine about 10 mi. from here, but thats a different situation, it's in the face of a cliff. Rocks comprise about 50% of the mass below the topsoil around here. Thanks for info.

Would the reddish color come from iron ore perhaps? Maybe that's why your detector is chirpping on them? Dunno.
(Just thinking out loud...)
