Trying to narrow down location of the 1st Harlan Battalion, Harlan, KY. Found this along with a horse shoe, two brass harmonica reed plates and some rusty iron pieces. Looks like a trigger guard. Any ID'ers? Thanks!

I just don't think that is a trigger guard. It would be thicker at the mounting points.Good luck on your search. And welcome to Tnet.

I think it would be a stretch to say trigger guard. It's so badly out of shape a person can't reasonably say it is or isn't, but I'm familiar with muzzle loader rifle and musket trigger guards, and my money is on no, it's not a part of a trigger guard.

WildmanLivesOn, Kind of agree that it is thin. Most bass ones were cast and thick where they attach or part of a plate that screws to gun. Was just up your way a few weeks ago and stayed at the Benham Schoolhouse Inn. My family is from Benham and both of my parents went there. Several places my Dad and I discussed I should hunt in Benham. Best of luck up there.

My first thought was spoon, the consistency is similar to some old copper pieces I've found. The holes threw me off. Thanks for the input! Nice to hear from a local also, TNGUNS. Benham seems like it would be loaded with coal camp stuff but I haven;t made it there yet!
