Idaho?

I found this tag a couple of days ago in Montana. It appears to be a name and ss#. By the number I'm
guessing that the number is from Idaho. Why would anyone put their name and SS# on a tag?

Probably from an earlier age when people were honest, and your ID was respected, not stolen. My have been on a dog collar.

back in the 70's you could get bracelets with your SSN on them and in the military your SSN is your serial number. This may have been mounted on a wooden footlocker?

Yup...could be off a footlocker, or piece of duffel. I'd forgotten the ID# was same as SS. I have one of my dog tags on my keychain, but the number on it isn't my SS#. But I clearly remember my serial # was my SS#. They must have used a separate ID# on the dogtags.

Yup, my dad had his SS# tattooed on his arm.
