that one was used to cover up one big$ss mouse hole ;D ;D ;D

I would say palm/wrist guard sewn on leather & used to protect them from sharp objects.

Body armor... I like that idea! But who knows...

not so much armor as a protective item for industrial/work related jobs. ie leather worker.

Looking at the holes and the indentions on them I'm inclined to say this piece was either screwed or riveted onto something. Each hole seems to have the same diameter indention on it, sewing wouldn't have left these on the surface IMO.

Yeah, good point.

Although I guess it could be riveted to leather. Although I think its too big for what I'm suggesting.

Lead sheets were used to repair boats, ships, roofs and the like...long before tin or galvanized metal...

How and where it was found may be a good clue in lieu of endless guessing...

Please describe the circumstances of the find...age of structures nearby or relationship to navigable waters...
