This was found on the beach while metal detecting recently. I believe it's bronze? Is anyone able to identify what it is?

Reminds me of a square head brass valve handle.

I remember one's like this from my old navy ships.

That the valve you were supposed to open when you were sent to get a bucket of steam?

Why YES it was.

We would deliver the steam up on the carrier flight deck with 50' of flight line, 25' of rhumb line and a can of relative bearing grease.

It's what got them F-4 Phantom's off the deck.
