While finishing up cataloging a friends inherited collection of coins/tokens and medals, I came upon two of the smallest coins I have ever handled. Guess they are Middle Eastern, but have no idea. Most of the collection was from 1860s and earlier, so assuming that is the time frame of these two identical "coins".

One photo is with a three cent piece for an idea how small they are. The are only stamped on one side with the impression showing thru on the back side.

Anyone can solve this, I have no world coin books, so totally in the dark on this. I assume they are small stamped brass coins or tokens.

Could they be gypsy or Belly Dancer coins/charms?

They seem to come in a wide variety of patterns and styles.

EDIT: I see HuntinDog had the same idea......

With the small size I think not a chance, there would be no noise emitted from clanging together. They are only 12.5mm in diameter. Wanted to add, I do think they might be Persian like the charms.

As far as dating, this collection seems to have only a few items from the early 1900s, believe 1919 was the latest dated item, but hundreds of items from 1860s up to a 1500s French Jetton.

Are they the same on both sides??
Thin stamped or thicker pressed like a coin??

Not like a coin, they are very thin, like I said in my original post, the stamped area shows thru on the other side. A U.S three cent piece measures 0.6mm thickness and these are 0.5mm thickness. No big deal if do not find out, just trying to ID some of the odd ball foreign coins in the collection, there are other small ones, just not that small, but those are definite coins so should be able to ID them if I get lucky.

I agree with others, that they are not coin/tokens but some kind of jewelry.

Regardless if a charm/token, whatever, it would be nice to know if it is a representation of a coin, just like there are "coin" buttons, etc. That is the reason I had hoped it would show in a world coin book, not necessarily the items I posted but the design so I can say what it represents, if anything........................I am cataloging which involves more identity than just saying it is a charm or some kind of jewelry if possible. :)

It might be difficult to match because they are offen coin 'like', but not the same as any existing. Although you might be able to say it's close to a....

I can't help you on this one but look forward to seeing other unidentified 'coins' you are attempting to ID.

1866 Peru 1/5 Sol
1859 Danish West Indies 5 cents
1824 Wilhelm 1 Siber Groschen
1877 Netherlands 10 cents
1864 Peru Lima 1 dime 2 ea.
1866 Peru Lima 1 dime

1862 British 6 Pence

WW2 Red OPA War ration tokens 9 EA, one rare MM

These are just the ones I did today, several hundred others done last year, have about perhaps 50 more to go, Oriental/Mexican and Unk bigger foreign coins. The attached image is the last coin to be done for today. Whatever it is........ :)

That looks like a German coin of the free state Bremen.
