Anybody have a clue as to what this is? It was found in a Civil War camp. By calipers, it measures 1 19/32 inches wide by 1 inch tall, has a cavity that measures 1 3/64 inches ID by roughly 7/8 of an inch deep. It has two tabs on the top that looks like a strap would have passed through. It is quite heavy, but magnetic so it must be iron, although it has a coating that has aged like lead. I am at a loss!

Thanks for your help.

Roughly the right shape but too small for a crucible I think - it would only hold enough lead to make one or two bullets, I like the fuse component suggestion though.
