I hope someone will be able to help ID these 2 rocks? I'm calling them rocks only because I have know idea what else to call them ;D

First one was found @ approx. 4", very very light in weight (1-3/4oz), black but has a silverish tone in color, non metallic and kinda of porous in texture. The second one, found next to the first one but down about 8 or 9 inches (maybe a little deeper) and just inches from a very old water line. Very HEAVY @ 14 -1/4oz), some of the color I think is rust or other mineral stain but not sure, slightly magnetic - can hold a small magnet. I don't have any real strong magnets to test it, just refridgerator ones.

Here they are together to show size comparison. They are almost the same size but very different in weight.

I already thought of coal, I dont think that's what they are. The black one is way to light and wrong texture to be coal, the other one is extremely heavy for it's size. I dont think a metal detector would pick up coal anyway's, would it?

The other may be iron nodule but I dont think is magnetic. your rock being magnetic could be a candidate meteour. First rock im still betting coal. There are different types of coal, Bituminous "household" coal, Anthracite which differs from other coals due to extremely high content of carbon with dark shiny matrix, Lignite which is a light-brown colored coal. Being in an old water line probably Peat.

Actually it was found at about 4" deep, the water line pipe was off to the side and down about 9 inches or so. It's not shiny at all, just has a silver kinda of color to it. No part of this one is shiny or hard like a typical lump of coal. It's very dry and porous. It sorta feels brittle like it would fall part very easily but I have tried to break it and can't.

I'll try to get a better pic to post of it.
Thanks for your help
