My friend wanted me to post these 3 metal (silver clad) buttons she found at 10 inches in a Vt cemetery. Sorry no reference or underside pics; estimate 1 inch diameter. Under surface is hollow except hole in center where I'd expect a metal stalk was to sew on. Feels like silver clad over lead? pewter? She says just lightly washed with soap and toothbrush.
Thanks for any help, Dennis

I can't reply, because your photos aren't showing up.

But you can see the different types and styles of buttons on my "How to clean buttons" topic in the Cleaning and Preservation section of the forum.

I'll check back later to see if this topic has photos.

My impression is upholstery tacks.
I do not Know how the lining was attached to coffins but maybe tuck point?
It has already been said but cannot overstress,Cemetaries Are absolutely off limits.

Firstly, Welcome To TreasureNet, Dennis!!!!!!

I agree they do look like upholstery tacks, but remember he stated plainly "Yeah, I agree, wish I had told her "cemeteries are a no-no" but for authenticity I had to tell the truth..............." You've just gotta respect honesty!!!
So let's not be too hard on him folks!!!!

Besides, it was never said that they were found over a grave, so they may have in fact came from the seat of an old buggy, or saddle...........................
In fact, if they were found over a grave, wouldn't 10" be awfully shallow?
My guess is upholstery tacks from an old carriage seat/interior! :icon_sunny: :icon_sunny: :icon_sunny: :icon_sunny:

Regards and happy hunting all!
