No writing, just vertical lines. Thanks

It really looks like the top bar has writing on it maybe you can lightly brush it with a toothbrush or pick out the dirt with a toothpick. Then we can try and help even more.

Similar to Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) ribbons. The GAR was a Union Civil War veterans group. Yours might be the Coast Guard or Navy branch of the GAR.

Thank you for cleaning it up with the dirt it was hard to really get a good idea of how it really looked. I am thinking it is an older style so I would use different wording when trying to look it up Like "vintage or antique" but I also wonder if it was an applique on a ribbon or does it have a tie tack style of pin to be attached to a hat or epaulet or does it have a brooch type of pin or no pins at all? which would make it more of a glued on applique which might indicate it came off a ribbon medal. I see you show California and the Bay area has a strong Navy history as does San Diego and many other spots so maybe it comes from a Navy club in the area possibly a membership pin?

Ribbon makes sense too, looks like it was pinched on. Sorry for the delay 20210124_200846.webp
