I could be very wrong, but looking through an old military medal guide page by page that has medals and ribbons from before the Civil War to the Iran conflict, I am not seeing this one. The ribbon (while I can not see it adequately) does not seem to be in the book either, so my best guess would be some kind of archery award that is made up, since I can not find the ribbon I would guess it is not just patched together but probably made for a sport award in archery. Interesting though that it has thirteen stars around it, makes me think it would be military, no doubt though it is from the USA and not Canada or another country.....

Back is blank. No maker mark. Rbbon is for a national defence medal. It is U.S. Ribbon was added by someone who probably had no idea what it was. They probably were just making up something for their amusement. The medal has me stumped. May just be a generic archery medal.

I have searched the world of the Internet over now, and still can't find it. But I find it rather odd (or unique) the way that the medal attaches to the ribbon, like the medal is supposed to be attached to a medal in the old fashion. I have seen that medal someplace before......This is going to keep me awake tonight, I just know it........Going to have to employ the aid of the grandchild to help me figure it out....

It looks like it would have originally hung from another piece with a pin on it, sort of like a Marine Corps marksman badge... I couldn't find any match to it anywhere, but check around your area for any archery teams and see if they might know....

Pic just in case someone doesn't know what a marksman badge looks like.....

It's just an archery competition medal that looks like someone took the ribbon off of a national defense service medal and put it on the medal. these medals originally had a suspension bar on top that would read the competition type. Hope that helps

The oak leaves look German but 13 stars would seem to point to US. We really needed a back mark.

I meant to say its hard to google without any mark. It was probably a 2 piece medal like Nola Ken said and a manufacturers mark may have been on the other piece.

You are right. I guess it will just remain un-solved.....
On to something else...I have a string of german tinnies on a ribbon marked with each month, I need to post.
Thanks!
