Found this in a flood channel se Kansas , don’t know if that’s the technical term but it’s a spot where if the water gets high it fills the channel and cuts off the big loop in the river but most times of the year it’s dry... anyway this was lying about 10 feet from a group of other points. I’ve posted before but maybe some new members can give it some fresh eyes. I think the flaking on it is beautiful but I just don’t have a good idea of what culture/time period it came from. Showed it to a guy that’s pretty good with materials I think he said Burlington but he thought it was odd that it wasn’t heat treated.

Nice find, not familiar with point types or material from your area but I'm sure someone will come along and help.

I'd agree that it's Burlington. The fact it is not heated tells you it's from an older culture. I'd say that's an early archaic point. Can't put my finger on what type it is though. Gary

That’s kind of where I’m at too, seems like it should be easier to id with how complete it is but that base being broken makes it tough.

Yep I bet its pretty early. Weird work on the tip. Almost looks like he quit in the middle of reworking a damage point.

That tip gets me too I’m Tempted to finish it but I hate to alter an artifact more than the tip bothers me

Chisel tips were sometimes made deliberately. Joshua could probably show you a slew of them from the far east.

FWIW

I have seen hundreds of intentionally worked chisel tips but that one is broken.
