ID help on a button please - solved - coat weight

This item was found on an old farm near a bunch of work shed type items. This "button" is non- magnetic. I appreciate any ideas you may have. Thanks

That isn't a button, but rather a hem weight.

Since you referenced Civil War Outpost, I just wanted to clarify that, from my understanding, this type of hem weight has only been found in men's civilian frock coat tails, but not in any military garments.
