Hello again, im posting this for a friend who found this near an old spring were we live. He texted me a picture of this button and I uploaded it to this forum. The button is concave but missing the eye. It is a one piece and I believe it to be military. Can someone give me an era and an estimate of its value or what ever info you have to throw my way, Thanks! - pursuit
P.s I meant to add it has 13 stars and its 3/4 " in diameter

Thanks timekiller for putting a face on this button. I noticed the shield is round on this one were some are shaped differently. Just cool how there are many variations to the same pattern. We are situated 1 hour south of a big body of water (Erie) or the great lakes. As far as oceans we live far from them. If this is navy what business would they have to be inland?. We believe this to be lost as a military function as it was found at a spring know to Indians and whites traveling through to other points in ohio. Though I could not rule out it was lost in civilian use later however there were other things found from that era to point out miliary. We had alot of militia activity building block houses and protecting settlers from Indian attacks.

Don't got all the answers :D But I do think it's a Navy button from early 1800's.And a cool one too.I've not seen one like it that I recall. :icon_scratch: Maybe IP will come along and help you.Would like to see the back if possible.

This might explain a little.
Roster of Ohio Soldiers in the War of 1812- Search the full text of the roster from the Adjutant General records. Ohio furnished 1,759 Officers and 24,521 enlisted men for this war.

Put it this way I've found a continental 10th Reg. Rev War button from the P.A. troops all the way down here on the coast of North Carolina. So not that strange I wouldn't think.

True I find civil war buttons around homesteads here in ohio. Most have dents and show signs of wear.... after he war the men came back home with their clothes used during duty and lost buttons from normal use as time progressed after discharge.

Your right cypress! You know when I said thanks for putting a face on it I did wonder if it was the Ken head on the Barbie figure lol! Yes, the link did not have a close resemblance to this button..... but I seen some characteristics. I did go on to say the sheild was round not like the examples shown. I also noticed without saying it, noticed the feathertips on the eagle point up and not down like all the examples. I did primarily comment to keep the forum topic floating close to the top of the screen. Timekiller thank you for your efforts but tis true, we need to ID this thing on the head. Suggestion, could it be Inaugural? Navy it may be but I can not put a green check mark next to this one saying its solved till we peg this sucker!

Its hard to see. Is there an anchor on the shield? Does it say something in an arc directly above the eagles head? Does it have a backmark?

Ok now I see the anchor on the shield that Timekiller was referring to. It must be early Navy (but no match yet...)

Well here is a back to the button...... not much to go on. No letters no design. What else do we have to look at?

Little blurry. You need to use the Macro setting next time.

Are those letters in an arc above the eagles head?

Yes, it arches over the eagle. And it says E. Plurbus unum. I just got off the phone with him and he said it was a 6 point 16 star.... sorry I gave wrong information this morning.
