Ibbotson Brothers button?

At my house I found an Ibbotson Brothers button that I can't find any information for.

It says Ibbotson Brothers along the top and Globe Works on the botton. In the middle there is a crown and the below it the word "improved". Above the crown is another word that I can't make out. The button is a little larger than a quarter. I know that is a horrible description but I don't have a camera right now.

Can anyone give me an idea of what I have found?

Thanks!

Is sounds like the medallion off the handle of a hand saw (which Ibbotson Brothers' Globe Works made, amongst other metal goods like razors, files, etc.). The back would be flat, with no loop or attachment device if this is correct.

No, it actually has the little piece of metal protruding from the back that is typical with buttons.

This one has me stumped, but it seems to be very old. I'm going to try to get a picture up.

Ben - I think you are dead on... a saw handle medallion or the like from Ibbotson Brothers' Globe Works .

Here is one of their saws... the little piece of metal would be the srew-back or tack-back

Thanks Jim, I'd forgotten how they were usually attached. :P (for some reason being pressed in was what came to mind this morning :tongue3: ) Good photo too.

The "button" doesn't seem to have an edge like that one does. Its flat going to the edge.

But, I bet its something like this for sure! The size and color are dead on!

Thanks for the ID, hopefully I can get a picture up.

Nice ID Ben...

taterchips - there were probebly many varieties... edged or not, I'd put a paycheck on this being what you have. :) Welcome to TreasureNet and the "What Is It" Forum...

See this Disston Saw website full of thier medallions as an example: http://www.disstonianinstitute.com/medallionpage.html

Yep, that looks pretty similar.

So I guess not much value or anything?

Obviously the Disston ones are collectable, and many others too - I have no idea if your's is.

I assume it depends on rarety and condition.
