The doctor I work for knows that my boyfriend (C6Corvette) and I metal detect so he asked us to come to his house to look for a gold ring. He had lost it about 20 yrs ago and thought... well... maybe.
So we went over there and hunted one whole area where he thought he lost it.
No gold ring found but found many pull tabs, arrow tip head, arrow, a child's metal sword, a few nickels and some other yard junk.... and just as I was sweeping the last row we hadn't checked... bam... a strong quarter/dime jumping high tone signal. I dug a hole and at the bottom of my plug I pulled a handful that contained the coin as I ran it over my coil. ding ding ding..... I split the dirt in half and I seen the edge of the coin. I could tell it was silver. As I slowly pulled the dirt away.. I saw this beautiful barber. I could see the date right away. 1902. It is my first barber quarter!
After it was cleaned up I see the mint mark is O.
I tried to give it to them but he gave it back to me a couple days later after I had told him that was the first of that type I had ever found.
He just asked that I come back and check another area of his yard for the ring. I was very excited to have this treasure back! Of course I will go back to metal detect If I find anymore treasures I will be sure to post.
