Only in the past 6 months really I have taken up the hobby of coin collecting. I want to gain some knowledge on grading and I have come across two books that look very promising. I want to know if you own and would recommend one, both, or neither of these books. http://www.amazon.com/Grading-Standards-United-States-Coins/dp/079481994X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1353922818&sr=8-1&keywords=coin+grading and http://www.amazon.com/Grading-Coins...8&qid=1353922818&sr=8-4&keywords=coin+grading Also If you could give a small review of why or why not you recommend them I would appreciate it.:icon_thumleft:

try "Photograde" the official Photographic Grading Guide for United States Coins by Jams F. Ruddy and

Official A.N.A Grading Standards for United States Coins.

they should be available on line or in a multi faceted book store.

You need two books. To judge the condition of the coin you need PHOTOGRADE by James F. Ruddy as mentioned above. It has actual pictures of the coins and states what details to look for as an indicator of grade. Get the new or latest edition.
To judge the price, you need A GUIDE BOOK OF UNITED STATES COINS, 2013 edition by R. S. Yeoman Kenneth Bressett is the senior editor. This gives you the LIST price. I got mine on Amazon. Frank

Both of those books you linked would be good as well as Photograde. Q. David Bowers is a very well respected numismatist and I've always enjoyed his books. Great with words and he tends to relate the history behind the designs in a thorough, straightforward manner. Enjoy!

ok so for the 3 books listed and the united states coins redbook 2014 total comes up to about 52$ on amazon..not too bad really for 4 books. I will have to check out the local discount book store for Photograde and the ANA Grading Standards since they are both from 2005. I will end up getting the other two on amazon most likely.

If the coins are worth a lot of money, get them graded by a third party grading company. Good luck.
