I thought this was a KGII, but could it be a CT Copper?

I found this copper coin around March of this year. After unsuccessfully trying to ID it, I assumed it to be a toasted King George II counterfeit, and put it with the many other toasty copper wafers I have found.

This weekend I took the coin out and noticed that I can make out what appears to be "787" in the date, although it could just be an illusion. If this was the case it would eliminate the possibility of it being a King George copper, and could mean a Connecticut copper or possibly even a rare left facing bust Vermont Copper.

I got a better photo of the reverse this morning, but the original obverse photos taken at the time are better.

The coin is 28.6 mm and weighs 125 g.

Any experts have an opinion?

It doesn't eliminate it being a King George, just makes the odds much higher against. I'd say CT is the most likely and matching just one letter will basically prove it.
