Please don't yell !
I was looking to upgrade from the Ace 250 and had narrowed it down to the Whites DFX or the Minelab SE, But now all of a sudden I get info on the Tesoro Tejon and the Minelab Sov GT. Back to confused. :-\ What does everyone else think ? I'm just looking for a good all around machine for older coins some jewelery both beaches and dry land, must have good depth as well as good descrimination, all at the best price and please if you know of another machine that I'm not yet considering don't tell me I don't wanna know. I never let the facts confuse me. ;D

Of those choice I agree with erikk. The SE and then the Sov GT.

lol @ erik... how did we know he was gonna say minelab? ;D Wait till greg sees the thread... he'll say DFX ;D

I have an excal (similar to the explorer) and a DFX. for the land machine, I'd choose the DFX (sorry erik) it just feels a little more balanced to me (and i'm a huge fan of its basically unlimited programming ability)... but I have nothing bad to say about minelab's products

I know I will be hammered on this one..but if you aren't ready to spend most of 20 years learn the Tejon..stay away from that one...I thought I was fairly good at working contraptions and used one for a day..I dug so much junk at 10" i thought I was diggin a pond. I think I would go with the DFX also..In fact, I'm looking at getting one in the near future.

I use the EX2 on the beach with a WOT. It goes in and out of the water with no problem. For the deeper water I use an Excalibur 1000 and for SCUBA I use the Excal 800. I also use a Fisher f75 but not near the beach.
If you want to go with the DFX be my guest but the Minelabs get my vote for the type of hunting you are describing. Been there, done that

I use an XLT. The main difference between the XLT and the DFX is the DFX holds more personalized programs. Whatever you get it comes down to practice and getting out there and hunting.

I must admit I'm a little surprised at the deafening silence :-X of the Tesoro Tejon fans. I thought they'd jump at the chance to expound upon the Tejons depth vs price etc....Maybe they think it's a best kept secret ! :-\

Maybe there is nothing to say. Having never used one can't comment :D

White's M6 is a great coin finder and isn't as hard to learn as the DFX or the SE.

I am like Steve, I use Minelabs and have a DFX. On land I prefer the DFX because I sometimes just like to play with the menus to tweak it. As far as depth, it's hard to say as some days the Minelab SE is deep and other days it's the other one. Could be location or the color socks I'm wearing. Both are excellent detectors and have to be learned.

I've got an exp 2 and a soveriegn. A lot of times I take both with me
and double check signals. I've yet to find anything with the exp 2 that
the sov. won't find. When I can only take one, I take the sov. I mainly
hunt old land sites, no parks or beaches.

IF YOU WANT TO DIG USE A TESORO.. IF YOU WANT TARGET INFO USE THE DFX OR XLT, I USE AN XLT WITH A SNIPER COIL ON THE GRASS & THE TESORO IN THE SAND FOR DEPTH...

Minelab is my vote. I have been there, done that with the DFX. The DFX is a good machine, but for me and my area, the deeper stuff was just out of the DFX's range.

I just did a poll on here and a few other boards on the X-Terra 70, DFX, Cibola or Explorer SE. Granted the Tejon is not in this poll. Have you considered the Minelab X-Terra 70? A number of people on your post is saying Minelab. I would check it out. The X-Terra 70 is a newer model for Minelab and it's flag ship for the X-Terra series. Check out my post on here for some more info on it.

This is a hard one...let me think....ok I am done....>>>>DFX...sorry Erikk....where is Dave today...maybe he is at his local Whites dealer trading his Minelab in for a dfx... hopefully they give him a good deal! ;D

ok. Two people I detect with that are very good friends and very competitive, one uses a DFX and one uses an SE. They are both proficient with their detectors and have been at it longer than I have. They used to spend half their time jacking with each other, checking signals to see if the other ones detector can pick it up. Basically neither one could out do each other on depth. I think they finally realized that hype is just hype and they are both deep seekers. Sometimes I think that when someone pays so much for a detector they have to justify it to themselves way too much. I use an MXT and has served me well for over four years but I don't wave the whites flag because there are so many detectors out there that I have never used or know enough about them to comment on them. Anyway, form what I have seen, depth is not really a factor between the DFX and the SE. That only leaves, Quality of construction, Customer support, Accessory options, Weight etc.
This only leave you with one choice, THE DFX,

IMO
Anyway. May your finds be plenty whatever you decide.

well ive never used a DFX..
Buts the Explorer series is good quality, has several available accesories, and i have had excellent customer support over the last 5 yrs from them.
As to the weight of a detector i dont notice much difference between my CZ7a and my minelabs until i put the 12" coil on.But then when i put the 12" coil on my Fisher it is hard to swing it all day also.

I've had the DFX and own two Explorers now. Research every one. Send for catalogs and look here for advice like you have. Everyone has thier own opinion based on what they like, not you. I paid my DFX off the first time out. I paid a dime for mine and found eleven cents. It took me six weeks to pay off the first Explorer! Just remember, your money and it has to satisfy you and nobody else. Remember the other top of the line detectors as well. Don't be in such a rush to make this desicion!! Good Luck!
