With the exception of the hole, it's pretty darn valuable. I'd say $5 to 6 dollars easy! Wanna sell it? ;D J/K

http://www.coinresource.com/guide/photograde/pg_$1Continental.htm

Here's a link for you. Nice find!

Hey! J/K stands for "just kidding." Lighten up! You have a great find there. Even with the hole in it, it's probably sitting over $3K to $4K.

But seriously, if you want to sell it for five or six dollars, just so you don't have to look at it anymore, just PM me. ;D ;D ;D

Try page 81 of the Red Book. I wouldn't know how to grade your coin but the values range from $7000 for a 'G' grade in Pewter to 22,000 for brass really big bucks for silver.

You really have to be careful. There's a site selling copies. 90% Silver are $40, Pewter are $15, & Copper or Brass are $30. Age them artificially for awhile & Presto!, Some sucker like me would snatch it up. But if you dug it, you can't lose. Except in you heart.

Please be very careful. I had the same looking coin and it turned out to be a fake. Finding it at the lake bottom certainly does increase it's chance that it's real... then again... it could be mine that I threw into the middle of a lake cause I was so mad it was fake!

:)

even if it were a fake, but i don't think it is, i'm still going to keep it.i think its just good luck for me,because it was the first coin i found in the lake bottom.

Anyone care to chime in on what appears to be erosion or cast bubbles on the obverse?

How ever in the world did you find this one? How deep? What lake?

This could be one heck of a story in the making!!!! Please tell us more.

Jamie

O.K., I'll chime in on that......you said it well, a combination of erosion and cast bubbles......Please don't get me wrong, I'm very sure you found it and am happy that it is your good luck charm but it looks a little too rough to convince me of it's authenticity. There were just soooo many fakes of this dollar due to it's extreme rarity.....I have attached a pic of a fake Mass.Colonial Cent that I picked up a while ago....they even went as far as to somehow "apply" green patina(probably even buried it for awhile)....note the R for replica..... I very much hope that your coin is real and if it is it would easily walk away with best find of the year.....just a thought, good luck.

HH all
Greg

Good post Greg. Even though Boopsie isn't asking us to help determine if it's fake or real, I'd SURE like to know. If I could get more facts about the find (how deep, what lake, age of the lake, etc), I would certainly make up my mind. I'm leaning towards it being a reproduction but would love to help her determine otherwise.

It is one of her best finds so it probably doesn't matter to her either way. I'd have to say that if I had found it, it would be at the top of my list too, real or repro.

Jamie

Greg. thirty years ago my Father-in-law gave me one of the coins like yours. As it was stamped with the "r" I always assumed it was a copy although I had never seen another. thanks for showing yours. That confirms my feelings. I sure hope the colonial is real though, It would be really great. Good luck and HH Stan...
